Is it common for Mtg group that holds FHM & Prerelease events to only have two formats,Standard and weekly booster draft? The group host thinks it's cheapest formats & not many players can afford Modern or Legacy__________________ Alice In Wonderland Is Best Theme Ever,Get A Free Token Card In Every Trade!R.I.P Lucky (1997-2003). Draft is very common for FNM around here. Constructed never draws, especially not Legacy.

My LGS used to do Legacy/Modern, but there simply wasn't enough people attending, so they don't host them anymore. It's just too hard to get new people to join the format. We have Standard and Drafts (And Commander nights!) only now, but those always have 30-35 players.

In short, yes.I'm lucky that my LGS does draft and constructed for FNM. The crowd for constructed show up in numbers over time, but they're less regular than the draft crowd. __________________ "Message to women worldwide: Girls....we're stupid. We don't like games. Very common for FNM, in fact Legacy isn't legal as a FNM format:

To make it easier to participate, Friday Night Magic events are open to anyone and feature the Standard Constructed, Modern Constructed, Sealed Deck, Booster Draft, Block Constructed, or Two-Headed Giant (Standard or Sealed) formats.
Our LGS does draft and standard every week and is thinking Modern for the last Friday of the month. __________________ I only play eternal formats Former DCI Level 2 Judge (Retired) Current Grumpy old man Level 2 (Active)

even if you get enough to play modern, you'll almost certainly gather more for standard or drafts. Its not to the store's advantage to run modern. Our store runs an occasional legacy tourney and throws up a dual land or other random prizes and gathers 8-12 where our FNMs are in the 18-25 range typically. Our numbers aren't great, but we work with what we've got.

havent seen legacy around here in quite some time...love the format but its easier for new players to get their hands on the newer cards. its still played most by casual groups here though.

About the extent of Legacy in my area is done by doing Commander tournaments. Most local stores outside of the big city areas just don't run Legacy or Vintage tournaments. Commander is a fun, somewhat easier way for newer players to get their foot in the door of legacy as you only need 1 copy of any given card that's not basic land. Still expensive to get into, but can also be built on the cheaper end when you play 1 or 2 colors.
