I am seeing Stoneforge Mystic in more and more legacy decks everyday. Now that they printed Batterskull this card is even more powerful. If it wasnt in the NPH event deck how high do you think this card would of got?

$30, at least. Its a stupid card, and it might be the worst part about T2, Jace isn't that good, Hawks aren't that good. Its the Mystic that really makes the deck shine when it goes "Hmmm... Sword? Batterskull? Mortorpod? They need to reprint it in M12, or inistrad too. So I have a chance at getting a few...nvm. I don't own any good equipment to use it with. __________________ Joz - can we ban Leshrac for not fixing the Chrome PM issue?Gunslinga - If I thought it would help, and if I could, I would.

I think what he means is that Jace doesnt make Caw Blade so powerful its the Stoneforge. Everything else can be dealt with. You can make Jace a 4 mana Brainstorm. Squadran Hawk is a Chump blocker. It's the Stoneforge that makes it so powerful.

Jace has been pretty much been dominant since it was printed. Stoneforge is as good as it is because they finally printed better equipment than Basilisk Collar. __________________ Most References in Massachusetts 85th All-timeSupport my friend's store: http://www.tabletoparena.com

Yes, I played a monoblack deck that did very well against most type 2 decks I played. Stoneforge was never my biggest problem. My biggest problem was damn Goblin Guides, until NPH came out that is. Stoneforge is a very powerfull card, evidence of it being played in Legacy Zoo, and other decks. Jace? No. Batterskull? Please, Jitte, SOFI > t2 equips. Stoneforge, is a good, card, and is one of the peices of the decks currently dominating standard that can't be easily replaced. __________________ Joz - can we ban Leshrac for not fixing the Chrome PM issue?Gunslinga - If I thought it would help, and if I could, I would.

How do you deal with artifacts? To the OP, it's "If it wasn't in the NPH event deck how high do you think this card would have gotten." Also, I suggest the thing really driving Stoneforge's value is Jace, the Mind Sculptor. I submit this claim because if it weren't for Jace 2, you could find decently priced Worldwake boosters, and it would be a $10 card at best. Goblin Guide never got this high when it was the hot card, and it was because you can get infinite Zendikar boosters. Jesus, at least Guide works by itself... With the scarcity of decently priced Worldwake, I think Stoneforge would be around $30 if it really caught on across the board. __________________ *MafiaBass*Joshweek*Letter Bombs!*Logout Mottle Salvation- a new place to play Mafia and WW

I revoked them, of course. Most artifacts in T2 are useless without creatures (equipment) or just are useless in the standard meta. Yea, I do admit that the scarcity of WW because of Jace drove the price of certain rares for that set, even without Jace, having the equipment package that we do for standard would still guarantee a 15-20 price for Mystic (minimum, imo)

Stoneforge and Jace. Two reasons why EDH is currently way more fun than Standard.

I'm with you on this one, standard is so boring. Legacy and Commander for me.

so here's the issue w/ that. More worldwake packs were opened because of jace. Stoneforge is just the nuts. Goblin guide enjoyed the fact that we drafted 3x zen vs 2x zen 1x wwwk. Stoneforge is high because hes good. Since he isn't a mythic, he'd be in the $20 range forever and ever and ever...... but now we have an event deck that chances prices, but retailers get screwed if they order this product because the other deck sucks.

I am sure the quality of your opponents was REALLY good huh?
Batterskull is the whole reason Stoneforge is playable in Legacy... Jace is played in every format, including Vintage, unlike Stoneforge. Jace is probably the most powerful card in Magic hands down, aside from Ancestral Recall. quote: Originally posted by joz: ...Basketball? Michael Jordan?

They weren't super good, but they weren't bad either. But you're just trying to attack me as a player and insinuate through sarcastic remark that I'm a bad player.

I think you mean Jitte, SOFI ... but I don't really play in tournaments, I just play against tournament players. And so far, Dand ...with Batterskull has shown up. Lots of decks with swords, jittes and memnites however.

Of course he' can be played in every format, but currently? I can't see him competing against the likes of Dredge, Zoo, Fish, Counter-Top, u/w control, or any other decent legacy or vintage deck. Also, batterskull is a joke to play in legacy/vintage.

Mystic was terrible before all the equipment that was printed. Jace IS that good no matter what. Standard sucks, and having to play it is awful.

People seem to forget that Stoneforge used to be a $6 rare that did nothing but fetch a singleton Basilisk Collar. __________________ Most References in Massachusetts 85th All-timeSupport my friend's store: http://www.tabletoparena.com

Maybe in Standard, but Mystic was always pretty decent when (and where) it could fetch Jitte and SOFI (and even SOLS). Not as good as Jace, of course, but still quite decent. The Rock w/ Batterskull made it to T8 of the Southern California Mox Emerald event (Legacy) just a few days ago. That's a respectable start. It's cropping up in a few places, slowly but surely. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think they will sing to me." -T.S.
