Greetings Motlers of the present! I've been out of the game for quite awhile - 6 years+. Back in the day I was pretty good at drafting, and I was thinking about attending a FNM tonight, but I don't want to enter completely unprepared and leave draft trains waiting on me to pick cards due to abilities or mechanics I do not yet know about. Can someone help me out and let me know the common mechanics of the current common draft sets? or if thats too much, at least point me towards a site where i can browse through scans of the cards and look up the abilities on my own? oh! the names of the sets will help immensely too!Thank you for your time!

Actually, today is the pre-release for the new Core Set, Magic 2012. If you go to most FNMs they may or may not be doing Sealed Deck.As for M12 Draft... be aggressive. Best advice I can give.

Creatures and removal are king. Here is some indepth discussion of each card from M12 which most places will either be drafting or doing sealed for FNM tonight.

As for the rest of the sets just look them up on Gatherer and read all the cards. Here is everything from standard. http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&format=|[]

Anywhere you FNM tonight will be doing M12 limited. The format is very grindy, so most of the common 2 for ones are very good. The only non core set mechanic is bloodthirst: http://magiccards.info/m12/en/122.htmlIn sealed you most likely want to play a slow control deck with good defensive creatures, be on the draw against all but the super aggro decks. Small ****ter guys (grizzly bears and friends) are much better in control decks than usual because you want to stop them from being able to get their bloodthirst guys turned on, so there is a lot of early trading. If you do end up opening a sicko aggro deck you want to make sure that you have enough ways to turn on your bloodthirst guys through their blockers. Here are some that in most formats would be unplayable so you might overlook : http://magiccards.info/m12/en/114.html http://magiccards.info/m12/en/139.html http://magiccards.info/m12/en/216.html I'm not sure if anything is different in draft, I haven't played it too much.

Awesome info guys thanks. Yeah I've been tooling around with the Duels of the Planeswalkers game so I've seen bloodthirst in action. Took me awhile to get used to not being able to put damage on the stack though heh. But sealed m12 eh... hmmn sounds like a good night to get back into it. Although I think the last sealed deck I've played was at the Prophecy Pre-release lol
