Is there a limit of the amount you can put in a post (character limit)?

Because when I try post my have/want list, the submission seems to stall and timeout unless I remove some of my content.

Yes, but the limit is really high. It's like 100k characters or something. You shouldn't be hitting it unless you have way too much listed.
