After listening to this, I firmly believe that WotC should record a music video for Price Tag |
bushe | that was a really interesting look at managing an economy, thanks for sharing |
iccarus | The one issue I take with the piece is not even really mentioning the reserved list. One could easily argue that has had a far bigger impact on maintaining the value of older card. Standard keeps the card pool moving and selling product. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Send them my way.

They never specifically called out the reserved list but they did say they stopped printing those early powerful cards. From the standpoint of a non-magic person it probably makes more sense to leave it at that. |
LandDestroyer | A lot of their info was off though. I bought a lotus in 2002-2003 for $170 off eBay. Sold it on 2004 for $300 + a stack of cards. They implied it hit 1k in like 94 :-| |
Nitelite | A lotus was definitely not $170 as late as 2002. You may have gotten one for that price but they were worth a bit more even then. I bought my first lotus for $170 (coincidentally) in late '95 or early 96. |

I mean, its NPR.... disclaimer: that was a joke, not a political implication, have a small chuckle and move on....

majicman | One thing they didn't go into is how magic almost imploded on itself. They printed to order fallen empire which turned a lot of people off to the game (400 million cards roughly). Thankfully I was warned by a shop owner about it before hand. I bought 3 packs at above retail (it was 1.50 a pack) for 2.50 because they only distributed 10% of the order at first. Opened the packs and was very disappointed in the product. They also didn't talk about how they took the very next step and reprinted early cards in a set called Chronicles and nearly every card went from their original value to 1/5th the value. They made a lot of early mistakes, but the pro tour did help fix the speculator vs. the playing the game situation. Pretty interesting overall and making it on NPR is kind of cool for the game itself. |

Well, I never buy retail. I bought it on ebay. Also bought all of moxen at $90-$110 on ebay during the 2002-2004 timeframe. They were all Sp. I've always been a deal hunter :-p |

So was your early post "humble brags" too or are you actually complaining about the price the broadcast mentioned? |

I was complaining about some of the information they gave that I felt was 'a little off'. Haha, who humble brags about what they picked up something for 10+ years ago haha |
