RyKerZ | As the title states, I'm seriously debating whether to drop the cash for an Imperial Recruiter. I only play semi-casual EDH but after play testing him in my deck, I'm in love. So far ebay shows them going for ~250+, and I'm wondering that price is stable or if it will rise/drop etc. If I knew that it would either stabilize at its current price or rise over time, I would be a lot more optimistic about purchasing it, but as Loyal Retainers was just reprinted and the value sunk, I'm not too sure about it. Opinions? |
Volcanon | Proxy him. Problem solved. The only reason I have recruiters is that I bought several dozen of him when he was less than a dollar each. If you're going to go this far in thinking about how much he costs, he's probably out of your budget. And he's completely balanced in a T2 type format, so he could be reprinted at any time. Maybe even in a better color like white. |
RyKerZ | For some odd reason my playgroup is MEGA anti-proxy so I highly doubt I could proxy him.quote: Originally posted by Volcanon: Proxy him. Problem solved. Find a better play group? It's frickin' casual yo. Do they have a problem with good proxies or just terrible ones? If you have the money feel free to buy him. If you don't, it's not that big of a deal. |
Swift2210 | I'd recommend against buying one. Wait until it's reprinted as a Judge Foil or included in another set |

if it's just frickin' casual, what's wrong with only playing with the cards you own? i recommend against getting him, he's awesome but there's more awesome things you can do for less if that concerns you.

AGO | It's only 1 out of 99 in your deck. Just not worth the price tag. |
FleeceItOut | proxy him, ~200 could buy most of a whole edh deck |
psrex | If you're really interested in an Imperial Recruiter then buy one. You can always sell it in six months. They've been around their current price for a while, so I don't think that you're in serious danger of loosing a lot of value on it any time soon (unless it is reprinted). You could always start on a set of P3K, too. It's a fun set to collect since you don't see a lot of it. |

The best part is that my P3K fits exactly into one of those 10 page ultra pro books. Also, they were pretty sloppy with the set, so there's a lot of really common misprints if that's your thing. Like, every "Burning of Xinye" in Japanese is named "Wildfire" and the red cards are numbered as if Burning is indeed where Wildfire should be. And a lot of the basic lands had numbering problems. Probably before they decided to call it Burning of Xinye it was Wildfire like it was in Portal 2. There's a lot of nice art in the set, too, though it's really hard to track down the artists. I once tracked down the guy who did Loyal Retainers, but I couldn't get him to sign mine. |

Why wouldn't he sign for you?

I located him because he works for the Sanguozhi card game (or he did some years ago). Mailed him a bunch of stuff and it came back with no such address. He didn't return mails after that. |

I have him on Facebook. I should ask if he's willing to sign again. But, yeah, OP, either proxy it or buy it. Maybe they'll reprint him, who knows? They've done Xiahou and Retainers, and nobody complained. I'm guessing next up will be Capture of Jingzhou, then maybe Recruiter, and eventually hopefully Seal. |
