fatman | So ive been noticing this ever since i started picking stuff back up again. It seems like there are generally better cards in these things. We all know how boxes used to be, where you could open two packs and know what was in the entire box. and opening sealed boxes now the distribution of foils and mythics is pretty all over the place. I wouldnt be surprised to find out they do this intentionally to hook people on the game or even to get old players back in. But i would be willing to bet at this point, that if you opened a box and 36 blisters of the same set the amount of higher end/playable or sell-able stuff would be higher in the blister packs. i guess im just curious if its just me or if other folks have similar experience? |
thror | sounds like you have a pretty bad case of confirmation bias. __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? [16:18] <@BrassMan> gush is unrestricted [19:01] <nderEvo> you can delete yourself

noquarter | I wish I had your luck when opening up blisters... Usually get trash. I'm pretty sure no matter how the cards got to you, you would have the same amount of crap Rares and good Rares, the packaging really doesn't matter, but if you like them, Go ahead and buy em. |
flophaus | Call it coincidence or not... but I have to say that I'm seeing the same things. The ammount of Mythics I get out of blisters is rediculous! I seem to have pulled all sorts of great cards out of them... yes, even in comparison to the crap ones. Another thing, the "Toolkits" have been very good to me as well! They only have 4 packs, but I swear I always get good stuff out of them. I've probably bought about 30 of them and only maybe 4 or 5 times have I not made more money out of them than I bought them for. Fat packs have been super-kind to me as well. The last one I bought had 2 Caverns even though there are only like what, 8 or 9 packs in them now-a-days... That was when they were at their peak too. I got those and like seriously 2 or 3 Mythics in that Fatty. I've pulled many Mythics out of Fat Packs. (Jace included) I do think there is some sort of "hooking you in" type of thing going on. Even if I don't get high $ cards, I'm always seeming to get really playable stuff out of these products. It's too uncanny for me to ignore. Edit: I seem to get a lot of foils too.. but not very good ones, but still the ratio is crazy.

Dimh | You should do a case study then. 10,000 packs of blister vs. booster box should suffice. Keep us posted! But seriously, until there is actually testing on this, it's just looking at the shiney stuff and letting that make the decision for you. Also food for thought: One of the boxes wee opened of AVR had Bonfire, Foil Bonfire, Tamiyo, Temporal Master, Cavern, Foil Cavern. Does that make boxes immdiately better than blisters? |
MagicPatty | It is possible that they use a different distribution method for fat packs / blisters right? My friend has a shop and he seems to think that people do better with their 'fat pack' packs than with packs from a box. He has suggested that there may be a different run for the packs that go in to fat packs, but even if he's seen a hundred people open their fat packs vs. a hundred open some boosters from a box, its still a very small sample size all things considered. |
fatman | well i dont open a ton of cards but lately its been a box every other week or so. and usually while i wait for them to ship i end up opening a few blisters from the store here. and no im not saying any thing is absolute, ive open a few good boxes too. but ive also opened some terrible ones. and it seems like the blisters have higher concentration of better cards, and just mythics and foils, the sort of thing that would grab random peoples attention. i dont like paying another dollar a pack by any means, but through the inconvenience of not having a hobby shop here, its just something ive sort of noticed. |
caquaa | Cards are printed in sheets of rares. These sheets contain both the good and the bad, right? They certainly aren't going to divert the bad packs to booster boxes so that fat packs or the blisters can contain packs w/ the good cards. I mean the other option would be to destroy the bad cards? No, it just isn't reasonable for wotc to package cards in any manner except for random. We know that they aren't completely random, but certainly random enough given a large enough sample size. |
MagicPatty | ^well of course^ I'm not saying that they make a print run that doesn't have the terrible rares, but I am suggesting that it could be possible that they up the mythic rare ratio / odds, or foils... |
Devonin | You realise of course, that the box that gets sold "as a box" and the box that the shop opens and sells "packs" from are the same box? |

We're talking about the packs that come in a sealed plastic cover with a cardboard back. (Blister Packs) -not just loose packs that came from a box. |
Jtrade77 | I've gotten over 50 sealed blister packs as gifts from other people. I did not get one single mythic rare out of any of them. Finally I told everyone 'please don't buy these anymore, I think they are pre-searched'. |
