JoshSherman | I'm working on a fixed prize structure for tournaments I run. The prize pool is a draft set bewtween two people, and I can control whether there's a odd player, so there won't be. I am seeking advice on both how far to pay out and how much for each spot. This is what I have in mind:code:
## PK * 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 08 12 * 08 04 -- -- -- -- -- -- 10 15 * 07 04 02 02 -- -- -- -- 12 18 * 08 04 03 03 -- -- -- -- 14 21 * 09 06 03 03 -- -- -- -- 16 24 * 11 07 03 03 -- -- -- -- 18 27 * 13 08 03 03 -- -- -- -- 20 30 * 14 08 04 04 -- -- -- -- 22 33 * 16 09 04 04 -- -- -- -- 24 36 * 17 11 04 04 -- -- -- -- 26 39 * 19 12 04 04 -- -- -- -- 28 42 * 20 12 05 05 -- -- -- -- 30 45 * 22 13 05 05 -- -- -- -- 32 48 * 21 13 05 05 01 01 01 01
Anyway, this takes a long time to type, so I'm going to stop there. I like first getting a little less than half. What do you think about this? __________________ *My LJ*Letter Bombs!*Facebook*Logout- I had it second!*CKGB

Sovarius | Cut to top 3 for 8 players. 8 packs is plenty more than half, and a REALLY good payout just to take first out of 8. Not to mention you win less out of 10 and the same for 12. Doesn't seems fair. __________________ Looking to buy any Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief oddities/pimp.My trades My sales

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I see where you're trying to go, but it just seems awkward to be penalized for coming in first because more people showed up. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. CubFan81 | Quick thoughts... Change the payout on 10 players to 8-4-2-1. Shouldn't penalize the guy who wins because the number of players fell in that odd spot. Also, time permitting, I like having a bonus for coming in 3rd versus 4th to encourage players to actually play it out instead of splitting. Likely only matters for Top 8 cuts as going by Swiss standings you might actually force two players to play it out and have the loser fall back to 5th on breakers and that usually leaves a bad taste. |
JoshSherman | We don't cut at the end of Swiss. I like what I've read so far, but that's not where I need the most help. Do you think it's ok to do an odd number of prizes? It's not something I've ever seen done, but it might alleviate some of my concerns with a more uniform prize payout. What about if I start at top 4 through 19, then add one slot at twenty, and every four players after that? That would mean roughly a quarter of the players get prize. I think I would be ok with that. __________________ *My LJ*Letter Bombs!*Facebook*Logout- I had it second!*CKGB

JoshSherman | I came up with this model for 8-64 players by twos. What do you think?code:
5 3 2 2 6 4 3 2 7 5 3 3 9 6 3 3 10 6 4 4 11 8 4 4 12 9 4 4 1 12 9 5 5 2 13 10 5 5 2 1 15 10 5 5 2 2 17 10 5 5 2 2 1 18 10 5 5 3 3 1 20 11 5 5 3 3 1 20 11 5 5 3 3 2 2 22 11 5 5 3 3 2 2 1 23 11 6 6 3 3 2 2 1 24 12 6 6 3 3 2 2 1 1 25 12 6 6 3 3 2 2 2 2 25 12 6 6 4 4 2 2 2 2 1 26 12 6 6 4 4 3 3 2 2 1 27 13 6 6 4 4 3 3 2 2 1 1 27 13 7 7 4 4 3 3 2 2 2 1 28 14 7 7 4 4 3 3 2 2 2 1 1 29 15 7 7 4 4 3 3 2 2 2 2 1 30 16 7 7 4 4 3 3 2 2 2 2 1 1 31 16 7 7 4 4 4 4 2 2 2 2 1 1 32 15 8 8 4 4 4 4 2 2 2 2 1 1 1 35 15 8 8 4 4 4 4 2 2 2 2 1 1 1 36 16 8 8 4 4 4 4 2 2 2 2 1 1 1 1
1st place always pays out between 35 and 43 percent. Second starts at 1/4 and gradually decreases to around 1/6. __________________ *My LJ*Letter Bombs!*Facebook*Logout- I had it second!*CKGB

TimeBeing | If it's FNM more people getting prizes is better. If the top prize s to big vs other prizes people start thinking about cheating or bribery. |

and if the prize is too small it doesn't feel like winning or even seem worth while. |
