Poecifer | I'll be trying to do one of these a day for a bit. These are my first two. Jace's Erasure http://i.imgur.com/P8VSz.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Zcfog.jpg http://i.imgur.com/DV36i.jpg Spirit Mantle http://i.imgur.com/6ItKw.jpg http://i.imgur.com/46ngh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/jfWSY.jpg Fixed the links. Apparently this forum doesn't play nice with base code. For spirit mantle, I changed the background to emphasize the darkness he carries with him. Let me know what you think and/or what cards I should do next.

Timmyhill | Over all they look ok but you hand looks really shaky on the striaght cuts. |

Still recovering from a broken wrist, this is a bit of therapy for me. Thanks, I hope the overall quality increases as the state of my hand does. I wanted to start with an easy card, but Jace's erasure was just too cool. |

seems like there should be a straight edge used for cutting. I have just a flat thin piece of metal I use for similar purposes. Its just scrap so scratching it or getting sharpie on it or such isn't an issue. |

thanks for the advice. I pretty much just picked up an xacto knife and went to work. I'll pick up a ruler and some other stuff tonight. |
Timmyhill | I use a marine grade epoxy, and make a block of about 50 cards. Then make the cut outs on a scroll saw. |

That's more than a little impressive, but I'm a broke college kid working to pay tuition and magic addiction, so I'm making do with foam tape at present for layers. |

Oooh ooh ooh. Show the Rising Waters you made me. AGO by the way, I'll have all the Lotus Blossom I need for the new one when I head back to Toledo on Sunday. |
Poecifer | Thoroughly impressed, what do you use for the rods on yours? |
Timmyhill | Here are the things I've done so far, they don't seem to look all that good in the pictures. They looked alot better in person, Almost every picture I take with any camera comes out a little blurry I've never really figured out why. life counters and alters Epoxing all the cards together works out very nicely, for me its easier then super glueing all the layers together. I make a generic frame to get the right thickness then I cut up the cards for the 3D effect. Its also nice because I usually only need 4 cards to get the effect I want. I've also attempted to make a much larger piece of collage work using a bunch of cards but I'm not sure how its turning out. I'll try to post a non blury picture tonight after work.

hilikuS | How much do these things cost? |

flophaus | I love 'don's old one =) Man I gotta say, I'm trying to wrap my mind around the whole process of making these things. That Lesser Werewolf was amazing how the wood shards were just being blasted all over. The Brass Man rules! I think all of you guys have pretty unique choices of 'beads'. Just so much customization/originality going on that a fellow artist has to appreciate these pieces! Awesome job people!

AtriumXP | Here's one I did a while ago, using Cancel Front: http://imageshack.us/m/546/6339/frontnailsinstalled.jpg Back: http://imageshack.us/m/580/5928/backnailsinstalled.jpgIt's hard to tell from the images, but the front and back are protected by a dissected toploader. The plastic covers the artwork and edges on the front, and the entirety of the back. This shot from while it was still a work in progress shows off the 3D effect better: http://imageshack.us/m/855/6136/frontnobeads.jpg You can also see I used a blanked foil for the backing... It really adds some "pop" to the effect. I made this companion piece to go with it, for poison counters. I took a Ravnica block life counter (dial/wheel style) and embedded it into a Poison Counter token card "sandwich". Poison counter: http://imageshack.us/m/827/7523/backpoisoncounter.jpg And yes, a metal ruler makes all the difference for cutting up your cards in straight lines. http://imageshack.us/m/153/12/00materialswip.jpg Pro tip... a normal carpet razor works very well for the large cuts and keeps you from dulling out your X-Acto. __________________ **I send in bubble mailer + top loader + soft sleeve**AtriumXP@gmail.com (e-mail/PayPal) I answer ref requests! You may be able to change that whole broke college kid thing by selling a few of these. I would certainly be interested in purchasing a couple (for myself and gifts to my play group) |
