broiler1977 | I know we are all spread out, but why don't we rent out a place and have a meet and greet tournament weekend! I wouldn't mind having a role in setting things up. We could use RSVP's, and with enough people, the cost of the location would be minimal. I've always enjoyed tournaments, and love this community. I was thinking of somewhere around NYC. Has this been tried? |
nderdog | Selecting a country, let alone a city/state that works for the most people is going to be tricky, I suspect. Now, what might be interesting is to have a bunch of "MOTL parties" that are web-conferenced together. An actual tournament might be hard, but if each location had a real tournament (or even series of tournaments, since they'd be smaller, so you could do lots of formats), then the "regional" and such could theoretically be played by Cockatrice (or whatever is used these days) until we have MOTL champions. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. implode | I wonder if MTGO could have something like a tournament that is password protected and members only. Would solve the logistics issue. |

I thought about MTGO, but figured that restricting it to people who had MTGO accounts and the cards for the decks would limit it too much. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Demilio | A physical event doesn't seem logistically worthwhile. At best you could piggyback onto an event like a GP or something. If you are truly looking to have a tournament, the best way would be either MTGO or something free like Cockatrice. A Momir basic tourney could be fun on MTGO?
|
SnapShot | A physical event depends on what number of people you would think makes it worth it. I mean if you host a tournament in a hub like NYC or LA or one of those major metropolitan areas, I know there will be significant attendance. Even anywhere near NYC, I know many people on this site are from the northeast and would travel a couple hours to participate. So I guess it comes down to how many people it would take to make it successful in your eyes. |
AEther Storm | This pops up from time to time . Yes please! If physical, please in Amsterdam or surrounding area, if on MagicOnline, please use CET +1. Excellent! I know a place in the RedLightDistrict where we could play. So when y'all are distracted (besides Jaz maybe) I sneak into the finals __________________ I'm a geek, you're a geek. wayne | How about using MTGO and doing a sealed tournament? |
JasonX-NL | Amsterdam is close but I sold off my physical collection. MTGO is easier, if the timeframe works for the majority. Which will probably rule out the Europeans. So, an US and EU tournament? |

That is in itself a good idea. Now to deal with the time difference. If I play against someone in the US then one of us has to play at an inconvenient time. Especially if that person is from the Western part. So it can be done, but the time thing has to be worked out between opponents of different continents.

That's why I like the idea of regional events, so the early games are easily scheduled, and only the top 8 or so have to deal with time issues. I'd recommend weekends for most of the time-zone nightmares, so that hopefully someone can be playing in their evening against someone in their morning when it's relatively convenient. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me.
