I3Iood | So I quoted someone a shipping price ($5), to another country, and they paid and everything and I went to ship it and it came out to be $15 shipped (which is 3x what they paid). I understand that I quoted him and do not feel he owes me anything because of my mess-up, but what would you do in this situation? Jason |
nderdog | All you can really do is learn from it and move on. You could mention it to them and they may be nice and give more money, but I wouldn't expect it, and you certainly can't demand it. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Uthaedeol | Kinda depends on the size of the deal. If $10 is a fraction of the total value involved I would take the hit. If the total value is $25, I would think twice. If you really don't wanna go through if you have to pay the $10 extra, just say you're sorry explain the situation to him. Perhaps you can split the extra $10 or perhaps the other person doesn't mind paying $10 extra. It is after all the price for shipping in this situation. __________________ Swamps suck. Timmyhill | Something like this happened to me but it was much more then $15.00, he was nice and did split the shipping with me but was very upset I didnt contact him first to get it oked. If the person is reasonable like in my example just tell them and maybe they will send you a little extra for the shipping. If they dont care then like you say its kind of your fault so just be more careful next time? |

Just keep in mind that if the other person doesn't agree to drop the trade, this would be considered backing out of a confirmed trade and could lead to a valid BTA case and karma smack. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Understood. I just wanted to see what everyone else would do in the situation. I pm'd the person and said we are good and this was not about them, just wanted to see what people would say. quote: Originally posted by Uthaedeol: Kinda depends on the size of the deal. It was a $70 transaction, and they were awesome about it and offered $5 more to offset my loss. Great person. quote: Originally posted by nderdog: Just keep in mind that if the other person doesn't agree to drop the trade, this would be considered backing out of a confirmed trade and could lead to a valid BTA case and karma smack.
I already shipped it knowing the loss. I was in no way backing out or trying to get more money. Just seeing what other people would do in the situation. Thanks for all the opinions on the matter. I would think it would come up more since alot of people ship all over the world. Jason |
majicman | Would suggest in the future that you check your local post office web site for pricing based on options you are offering and the weight of the package. If you sell/trade a lot, maybe a small scale from Walmart may be something you could pick up in the future. Good luck...Greg |

What did you ship, like 600 cards in a flat rate envelope? |

I figured that you would have known, I was posting the info for the benefit of others who would be reading the thread that might not know any better. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. edsillars | Personally, I would absorb the loss, not mention it to the other party, and chalk it up as a valuable lesson that only cost me $10. I've paid much more for lessons. |
riemann-zeta | the first time i shipped more than a couple cards overseas i told the other party to just send payment minus the shipping and they could send a 2nd payment after i returned from the post office..worked out fine. |

Doubt so. $70 of cards, $15 shipping means he sent ~10 cards via registered mail. 600 cards in Flat-Rate envelope is possible, but that will mean the cards' average price are $0.10-0.15....UC/C or bulk rares |

If he quoted someone $5 on international registered mail, it's his own fault for being clueless about pricing. |

Thanks for keeping the faith! quote: Originally posted by dwiz: What did you ship, like 600 cards in a flat rate envelope?
It was a duel deck and about 25 singles to Austria. The funny thing about it is I sent 2 factory sealed sets to Germany last month and it was $18 for the 2 together. I quoted him $5 with the knowledge I would eat a few $ in shipping.quote: Originally posted by dwiz: If he quoted someone $5 on international registered mail, it's his own fault for being clueless about pricing.
It was not that and I think you should be careful who you call clueless when you have no idea what you are talking about. I have shipped many many thing overseas, and I am willing with ebay, librarities, and here, I have shipped much much more than you have overseas in the last year. Thanks for the helpful input. quote: Originally posted by edsillars: Personally, I would absorb the loss, not mention it to the other party, and chalk it up as a valuable lesson that only cost me $10. I have also paid much much more that that in lessons. Also this thread was not about me complaining or asking what to do or even my situation. I just wanted to see what the community would have done. Jason |
flophaus | On an international deal, I would have pre-calculated the shipping. (Taken it down to the P.O. and asked "how much to this addy?") |
