MashedParsnips | OK, I'm no master, but as far as I know, Blastoderm will be the best creature in November's type 2, hands down, no questions asked. How to get rid of a turn 4, 5/5 untargetable guy is the problem. Lets start off with the colors and possible solutions BLACK Uhh... Massacre 3 times? Get real. THe only real thing that I can see happening here is 2nd and 3rd game sideboarded Perish. It's quick enough. Don't know what else could fit in here. BLUE If you suspect your opponents about to play one, DON'T TAKE CHANCES. Leave your mana open for a counterspell. Otherwise, your gonna be in trouble. Blue also has a bunch of those chump blockers for 1 mana, like the new Faerie Squadron. GREEN With Invasion out, green has some nice new fatties, like Molimo (I played him at the prerelease!) and the Ancient Treefolk Guy. (He's a 4/7). But Molimo costs 7, and the Treefolk guy costs 6. So the obvious answer is ANSWER WITH YOUR OWN. If your playing green and no Blastoderms, please allow me to kick you in your head. Green's got some nice chumps too, sometimes with regenerating. RED Hoh boy. All of red's removal is now dead, 'cause 'derm's untargetable. If worse comes to worse, Earthquake for 5. WHITE White looks to me to have the best chance of taking care of him. 3 Options I see are 1) Wrath of God. Easy enough, and it's a turn 4 card also. 2) Wave of Reckoning. Ehhhhh, sorta' good, I guess. It costs 5 though, and might not kill all your opponents guys. 3) Weenies with protection. NICE stuff here. With no trample, stick a Cho-Manno's blessing or something on a guy or something. 4) Oh, there's 4 - I forgot to mention Story Circle. Obvious what it does. Well, thats about it, please tell me your suggestions on how to deal with this MONSTER.

mogg bomber | Red usually doesn't have a problem with Blastoderm. I have seen many of them taken out by Earthquakes, and even more importantly, double blocking with two Veteran Brawlers is very effective. __________________ "Behind every great mogg bomber is another mogg with a shovel and a basket" mogg bomber's refs |

underworld dreams | You can also chump block with squee against blastoderm.. |

iakae | You know, in the MBC PTQs, I beat down many Blastoderms thanks to Thrashing Wumpus. Block the Derm, Thrash for 2. That equals dead Blastoderm. There's also the tried-and-true "Block with Nether Spirit" thing, and with the reprinting of Ravenous Rats, Sixth containing Stupor (see the discard theme here?), etc., Black is amazing against Blastoderm. As for Red, it does have a problem with Blastoderm...if Blastoderm gets into play. Ponza often doesn't allow four mana to get out on the board, especially the Ponza variants with Tangle Wire and/or Tectonic Break. The only color that has serious problems against Blastoderm is Blue, and that's if Blastoderm can get through the wall of counters. I'm in no way saying that Blastoderm is a bad creature (hell, I'm even using them in my Extended deck), but it's not the invincible beating machine that some people think. It's also definitely not the best creature in the coming T2 season (my money is on Thrashing Wumpus for that honor, or possibly Lin Sivvi). |
9430 | Black? Not be able to kill a creature? Lol. Actually, there is a card in invasion that seems almost readymade for antiblastodermship. Do or Die. For 2 mana you can kill a blastoderm and sometimes some other stuff as well. |
spike85 | White also have a good, old card that can really handle Blastoderm very easy. Of course I am talking for Righteousness but is is not in T2. with only one white mana, even a broken 1/1 can kill the blastoderm. Also there is Reverse Damage for white. With three mana, 5 life on turn 5th when the Blastoderm will attack. Then you have mana to cast a bigger creature that can handle Blastoderm. Also for Black with dark ritual and a Hidden Horror on 1st turn, can also handle Blastoderm. And of course Perish for SB. __________________ " You've got your childhood wish at last. Ertai4 | Yea besides Persih you could use Thrashing Wumpus for Black or at least that is what I would do. White is definatly the best agaist 'derm because you can chump block or use wrath and have lots of options Personally I would just play gree w/ 'derms to aviod the whole problem almost entirly __________________ "Just Good Enough is never Good Enough Ertai4's Refs Updated-H/W*** |
razor2sharp | In a casual game today, I went diving griffin, then empyrial armored it with 5 cards in my hand __________________ All these playas and all these pros in here, Somebody here's gotta suck! |
phoenix | Blue is the only color that has problems with derms. Uncounterable |
Fooath | Uncounterable?! HAH! your funny |

Fooath | Do or die? Well, I would personally choose the llanowar......or even the llanowar and something else. Sure I lose a couple creatures but I keep a 5/5 for a few turns. |
phoenix | I didn't think you could counterspell a blastoderm since it can't be the TARGET of SPELLS or abilities.. |
Yawgatog | Blastoderm's abilities only work when it is in play. If it were uncounterable, it would say either:Blastoderm cannot be countered. or Blastoderm cannot be the target of spells or abilities while it is on the stack. |
Fooath | It would say "Blastoderm can not be countered" You can still counter something that can't be the target of spells or abilities. You just cant counter it while it is in play. |
GogettaEX | I play sligh... What do I do? It seems they constantly play 3 in a row against me. __________________ Wizard's First Rule: People are stupid. They will believe anything if they want it to be true or if they're afraid it is. |
Legend King | Gogetta just play Earthquake |
mtgwarren | Sure, there's a chance you could kill a blastoderm with do or die, if your opponent is on crack! Why not just choose the other pile (a bird, utopia tree, maybe even an empty pile)? The extremely under-rated answer to blastoderm (or any other untargettable, for that matter) is TARIFF. |
